I'm going to London for a few days in January. I was there for a day last October seeing Dirty Pretty Things at the Roundhouse with beelzezuk and nene and decided I wanted a few days to have a proper tour. You guys might remember a post I made a while ago about the Monaronadona virus that screwed up my comp so badly that I had to hand it in to get it removed. Well, I found out how I got it in the first place - by downloading a supposedly reputable registry cleaner. *facepalm* The website looked as professional as they come. I can't find that website now - I think it must have been taken down since word got out. If you come across 'Registrycleaner2008', avoid it like the plague. There's a full explanation on the whole scam here.

I do have a few freeware programs I can safely vouch for, so if you're looking for free computer protection, you might want to try these:

http://www.superantispyware.com/ - Removes spyware and is pretty good at detecting/removing (but not preventing) viruses as well.
http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html - Prevents spyware from installing on your computer in the first place.
http://www.avira.com/en/pages/index.php - Free antivirus.
http://www.ccleaner.com/ - Free registry cleaner. Also cleans up unwanted files.
